Venus Fly Traps are native to only one spot on earth in North Carolina. From these original plants, people have hybridized them and created all kinds of new, beautiful, and big, cultivars. These plants do require dormancy witch means they will go back into a bulb state and a dormant state. If you purchase an actively growing plant, just pot it up in an equal mix of peat and washed silica sand. Take your plant and put a tray under it with water. I do not recommend any artificial humidity increasing set-ups. Just put your plant in a well lit set-up. The more light the better. You can take your plant and put it outside for the summer if you live in a temperate zone, or if you live where it is warm all year you can leave your plant outside. The hybrid varieties have extreme beauty as well as giant sized traps. I’ve even seen one variety that seems bigger than the Dingley giant genetically hybridized and cultivated in Europe called the Z class of Venus Fly Traps. I’ve seen one of these plants that was around two years old and the traps were shockingly huge, almost artificial looking.  The dormancy is easily attained by simply putting them in some slightly moist LFS in a baggy and placing them in a refrigerator for a couple of months. After that take them out, re-pot and they are ready to go. |
